Engine and Transmission

The new Elantra facelift continues to feature the 1.8-litre dual VTVT petrol and the 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel engines that used to power the previous model. While the former delivers a maximum power of 149PS at 6, 500rpm and 18.1kgm of torque at 4, 700rpm, the latter offers 128PS at 4, 000rpm and 26.5 kgm between 1, 900rpm and 2, 750rpm. Transmissions on offer are a 6-speed manual gearbox, and an automation transmission, which is available only on the top-end models.

Performance and Handling

Both the engines are frugal and refined. Compared to its rivals, the 1.6-litre diesel power-unit doesn’t feel punchy. It is capable to achieve 0-100kmph in 10.56 seconds. The car runs effortlessly in city traffic. Though, it gets nervous at high revs on highways.  The Elantra offers best-in-class ride quality with comfortable and cushioned seats and agile suspension unit that absorbs jerks and bumps. The light setting and low resistance sillica tyres aid to its handling.

Braking System

The stopping power of the Elantra is just adequate. The sedan gets robust disc brakes and brake calipers on all four-wheels. Features like ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and ESC (electronic stability control) further enhance its braking capabilities.

The 1582 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 20 kmpl in city and 22 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 14 kmpl on urban roads and 16 kmpl and freeways, respectively.

Safety Features

The Elantra is one of the Hyundai’s safest cars that host a bunch of advanced safety equipment. Safety features on offer are dual front airbags, side airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), ESC (electronic stability control), parking sensors, central locking, smart access card entry, seat belt warning, anti-theft alarm, door ajar warning, power door locks, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, child safety lock, front and side impact beams, day & night rear view mirror and many more.

The Hyundai Elantra is a good value for money car. The sedan impresses with its premium styling, best-in-class interior and efficient engine lineup. It’s easy to drive, and offers superior ride quality.
