Korean carmaker Hyundai has reportedly announced a recall for more than 2,00,000 units of Elantra sedan over power steering defect that may cause crash. The affected sedans have been produced between 2008 to 2010, whereas the affected list also features the Elantra Touring hatchbacks that have been produced between 2009 to 2010. As per company estimates about 3% of the vehicles would feature the defect. The various fuel trims in Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra are priced differently. The Diesel trims are priced between Rs. 15,27,625/- to Rs. 18,80,274/-. The Petrol trims of Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra start at Rs. 14,81,009/-.
Receiving substantial cosmetic updates and lot of chrome treatment, the new Elantra looks more refreshing and premium than the old model. Though, it retains the original design. On the front end, the car features new projector headlamps with LED light, bold front bumper with chrome insert grille and new fog lamps. The side profile gets chrome window belt-line, chrome door handles, moulding on belt line and 10-spoke 16-inches alloy wheels. The rear end, too, is revised with dual-tone rear bumper, chrome tip exhaust and rear lamps with new LED effect. The Hyundai Elantra is available in six colour options - Coral White, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black, Twilight Blue, Bronze and Maharaja Red.
The more significant updates have been made to the interiors. The car gets new all-black theme instead the beige, steering wheel with dark brown leather wrap, leather seats, rear AC vents, metallic scuff plates, new-generation touch audio with 4.3-inches color TFT LCD, auto cruise control, 10-way power seats with lumber support, smart key with push button start and several other features. With top-notch material quality and plenty of equipment, the Elantra offers immense comfort. The seats are extremely supportive, and offer ample legroom.
Engine and Transmission
The new Elantra facelift continues to feature the 1.8-litre dual VTVT petrol and the 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel engines that used to power the previous model. While the former delivers a maximum power of 149PS at 6, 500rpm and 18.1kgm of torque at 4, 700rpm, the latter offers 128PS at 4, 000rpm and 26.5 kgm between 1, 900rpm and 2, 750rpm. Transmissions on offer are a 6-speed manual gearbox, and an automation transmission, which is available only on the top-end models.
Performance and Handling
Both the engines are frugal and refined. Compared to its rivals, the 1.6-litre diesel power-unit doesn’t feel punchy. It is capable to achieve 0-100kmph in 10.56 seconds. The car runs effortlessly in city traffic. Though, it gets nervous at high revs on highways. The Elantra offers best-in-class ride quality with comfortable and cushioned seats and agile suspension unit that absorbs jerks and bumps. The light setting and low resistance sillica tyres aid to its handling.
The stopping power of the Elantra is just adequate. The sedan gets robust disc brakes and brake calipers on all four-wheels. Features like ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and ESC (electronic stability control) further enhance its braking capabilities.
The 1582 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 20 kmpl in city and 22 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 14 kmpl on urban roads and 16 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
The Elantra is one of the Hyundai’s safest cars that host a bunch of advanced safety equipment. Safety features on offer are dual front airbags, side airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), ESC (electronic stability control), parking sensors, central locking, smart access card entry, seat belt warning, anti-theft alarm, door ajar warning, power door locks, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, child safety lock, front and side impact beams, day & night rear view mirror and many more.
