The Grand i10 is one of the top-selling Hyundai cars in India. The Grand i10 is the global successor of the i10; however, the company sells both the models, old and the new-generation, in India. Based on the company’s revised fluidic design philosophy, it looks stylish and outgoing. The car offers best-in-class interior with a plenty of features, space and comfort. Powering the hatch is a new 1.1-litre diesel and a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produce 71bhp with 160Nm and 82bhp with 114Nm, respectively. It’s one of the most fuel efficient Hyundai cars in India. Its diesel trim returns an impressive fuel economy of 24kmpl, while the petrol variant offers 18.9kmpl. Both the engines are coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol trim is also available with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Engines are refined and rev-happy. Ride quality is impressive, and drivability is much better than many of of its rivals.

The various fuel trims in Hyundai Grand i10 are priced differently. The LPG trims are priced between Rs. 5,51,913/- to Rs. 5,51,913/-. The Diesel trims of Hyundai Grand i10 start at Rs. 5,79,648/-. Finally, Petrol trims have a lowest price of Rs. 4,86,823/-.
The hatchback, designed on Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy, looks very sporty and outgoing. It features a single-slat grille, large headlamps, angular fog-lamps, hexagonal lower air-vent and small chin bumper at the front end. The bold side creases, stylish roof rails, pull-type door handles and 14-inches diamond cut alloy enhance its side profile. At the rear end, it gets a new rear bumper, revised wraparound tail-lamps and large reflectors.
Just like other Hyundai car models, the Grand i10 offers best-in-class interior. The dual-tone (black & beige) cabin with ample space and supportive seats feels very comfortable and airy. First-in-the-segment, the hatch offers rear AC vents and1GB (863MB usable) onboard storage. It comes loaded with a plenty of features such as premium leather upholstery, OEM audio system with CD player, Bluetooth, USB and Aux connectivity, leather wrapped gear-shift knob and more.
Engine and Transmission
The hatch is available with two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.1-litre diesel. The diesel motor produces a maximum power of 70bhp at 4000rpm with 160Nm of torque at1500-2750rpm. The gasoline engine churns out a maximum power of 82bhp, while yielding a peak torque of 114Nm. A 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission are on offer.
Performance and Handling
Engines are rev-happy, refined and quiet too. The hatch runs effortlessly in city traffic and on highways. Mid-range is punchy. Ride is comfortable, thanks to the agile suspension. Handling is predictable, too. Body roll is negligible, and turning radius is small.
The braking performance of the car is pretty impressive. It gets front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The Anti-lock braking system (ABS) further enhances its braking capabilities.
The 1120 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 22 kmpl in city and 24 kmpl on highways, while the LPG variant offers a mileage of 16 kmpl on urban roads and 18 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
The hatchback comes loaded with a plenty of safety features such as dual-front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock braking system), EBD (Electric brake-force distribution), seat belts, reflector lamps on rear bumper and more. One must note that aforementioned features vary with models.
The Grand i10 is a good value for money car. It’s easy to drive and handle. With modern styling, best-in-class interior, frugal engines and better drivability, the hatch justifies its pricing.
Hyundai Grand i10 Vs Maruti Swift
Both the hatchbacks look sporty and outgoing. The Grand i10 offers best-in-class interior with better quality plastic and a plenty of features. Having a dual-tone theme, it feels more spacious and comfortable. The Swift, however, is equally good in terms of design, features and comfort. The diesel model of the Swift is more frugal and powerful than its rival. Drivability, on both urban roads and highways, is excellent. On the other side, the Grand i10 is an easy to drive city car. But, its highway performance is relatively dull than the Swift.
