American carmaker Ford has issued a safety compliance recall for about 8,000 vehicles in North America, including certain 2015-2016 Ford Explorer, 2015 Taurus and Flex. The list also includes Lincoln MKS and MKT vehicles for an issue with the parking brake. As per the identified issue, the parking brake might not engage fully, which is a compliance issue with FMVSS 135 regarding brake systems. However, Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue.

Ford India Private Limited is the completely owned Indian subsidiary of globally acclaimed American car maker, Ford Motors Company. In terms of ranking, Ford stands sixth in list of top ten largest car makers in the world. Apart from developed nations, it is also making a steady progress in developing markets like India and Brazil. The firm holds prime stakes in world renowned brands like Lincoln and Mercury. Among luxury brands, it holds a small but important share in leading brands like Aston Martin and Mazda. It was also the owner of luxurious British automotive brand Jaguar Land Rover which was later acquired Indian auto giant Tata Motors in year 2008.

In India, Ford India Private Limited commenced its operations in 1926. However, it was forced to shut down in 1954 due to high losses. Post economic liberation, it entered India again in October 1995 in association with Mahindra as Mahindra Ford India Limited. The two shared 50-50 per cent stake in this venture. However, Ford’s stake later grew to 72percent in 1998 and the JV’s name was later changed to Ford India Private Limited.

Nigel Harris is the most important person who is responsible for Ford’s all operations and activities in India. The man was appointed as company President in February 2014. The man directly reports to David Schoch who happens to be the Group VP and President of Asia Pacific Region. Other worth mentioning names are Anurag Mehrotra, the Executive Director of Marketing, Sales & Service of Ford India Private Limited and Vairamani Pandiyan, the Vice President of Human Resource Ford India.

The American car maker currently holds two manufacturing plants in India. The first one is located in Maraimalai Nagar, a place situated 45kms from Chennai. The facility has a production capacity of 1.5 lakh cars in two shifts on an annual basis. Along with the launch of its new hatchback Figo, Ford has invested another $500 million for doubling its production capacity to 2 lakhs units per annum.

Ford India holds strong plans for bringing-in a new line-up of cars in coming years. For this purpose, it has invested a hefty sum of $1-billion in a new state-of-the-art production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This unit will carry a capacity to roll out 2.7 lakhs power mills and 2.4 lakhs vehicles units annually. The company now holds a joint capacity to produce 440, 000 cars and 610, 000 engines per annum.

Being one of the top 10 car makers of India, Ford owns a widespread dealership network in our country.  In figures, it has more than 250 dealerships located in prime town and cities of all states. The company is exporting more than 25 per cent and 40 per cent of its cars and engines to 35 nations across the globe from India, respectively. Environmental Initiatives

Ford is counted among some of the prime car makers that give first priority to environment. The American carmaker has also released flexible fuel vehicles that have been designed to adapt across a wide range of ethanol fuel mixtures. The engines installed in Brazilian version of Focus, Ka, Fiesta, and EcoSport belong to this special lineup of engine. Apart from this, Ford is also offering an extended selection of pure electric and hybrid cars across the world. The Indian market is yet to witness launch of any hybrid or electric car from Ford, however, it is expected that such vehicles will join its Indian fleet in coming years.

Founder And First Car

Ford Motor Company is an American multinational automobile maker headquartered in Detroit suburbs in Dearborn, Michigan. The company was founded on June 16, 1903 by Henry Ford. Ford’s automobile portfolio consists of commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and luxury cars that are produced under a different brand name called - Lincoln. The company also owns an Australian performance-based car brand - FPV and a Brazil based SUV brand -Troller.

The first engine produced under this brand was a removable cylinder head installed in the Model T in year1908. It released Model A in year 1928, the first car in the world with a windshield and safety glass. The first low priced V8 engine was launched way later in 1932.

USP

With an aim to improve its market shares, Ford India introduced the Classic, the downsized version of the Fiesta, in 2011. The saloon looks exactly same as the old Fiesta, except for the new badge. It features an aggressive honeycomb grille, pronounced wheel arches, headlights, beefy side panels and alloys, mounted tail lamps and various other styling elements. The interior design and components are borrowed from the Figo hatchback. It’s comfortable and spacious, though the rear seats are little congested.

The EcoSport sub-4 meter SUV, launched in 2013, is one of the most awarded and popular Ford cars in India. With sophisticated urban and premium design, the crossover looks appealing. Ford Endeavour

Launched in 2003, the Endeavour was a volume-generator for Ford in India for a long time. However, with the increasing competition in the segment, the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) failed to maintain its market. The Endeavour is one of the best off-roading capable Ford cars in India. Launched in 2010, the Ford Figo hatchback received its first update in 2012, with some exterior, interior and mechanical changes. It’s one of the most awarded and popular Fords cars in India.
