World’s Largest Electric Car Factory to Come Up in Bangalore
Reva Electric Car Company is said to be building the world’s largest electric car manufacturing plant in India. The new plant will be capable of manufacturing 30,000 units annually and the total investment will cost around Rs 30 crores which is approximately $6.1 million. The company is based in Bangalore and its new plant is expected to be ready by first quarter of 2010-11. There has been a sudden surge in the demand for electric cars, especially with the western markets and their governments choosing more eco-friendly cars over fossil fuel models.
Reva not only intends to make the most fuel efficient cars but its plant will also be more eco-friendly. There will be options for rain water harvesting, natural light ventilation, solar energy harvesting, steel structure technology and a CO2 monitor. It will also have a games room for its staff, canteen and electric buses for commuting to and from work. The complete manufacturing unit will be landscaped with plants and greenery all around.

Before all this, Reva should improve the ugly duckling looking car image, it should come in an attractive shape... atleast it should resemble like Maruti's A-Star with bright jazzy colours to match with its appearance

Reva being a small segment car, it should be affordable to middle class but actually not.

Even after so many years reva has not been bale to get any subsidy from government, neither it is cost effective as the initial cost is very high. It has to match with maruti cost and atleast 4 persons if it wants to sell in india.

Excellent! I wonder why non of our indian giants are not working on Hydrogen fuled cars, when its the best fuel Plenty available in our planet. I think we should develop a hydrogen fuled engine and reach the people before others (foreign companies) come and take all cream first as of now we dont even have a hybrid car also like Honda, Skoda, Toyota, etc.

I agree fully agree with this. Apart from above, company also should think about higher seating capacity vehicle (2+2 or 2+3) and long life of battery or twin battery system to have longer drive. Once costs come down these vehicles also will become affordable and more people will buy.

Electric Reva should be cost effective.Govt should consider for total tax exemption for this product.Even subsidy may also be considered to promote this eco friedly car to a broad level. For replacement of battery after lapse of first battery cost must come down.Large scale selling of this car will save our forex reserves to a great extent. Will govt consider ?
