Volvo Expands in India

22 July, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Volvo Car India made a late entry in the Indian market but that fact is not keeping it away from making its mark amongst Indian customers. The company is gradually increasing its market presence in India and is upbeat about the luxury car market in the country. "Our biggest objective is to make tje Volvo brand available in major markets across the country and get new models here," said Sudeep Narayan, marketing manager of Volvo Car India.

The company intends to mark its presence in Bangalore and Ahmedabad next. It has not been able to sell in volumes so far and the luxury car market is mostly dominated by BMW and Mercedes in India. "We are currently not in a position to give numbers of the units sold. But the numbers are decent. We are able to give volumes and talk of market share when we have footprint on a par with our competitors, who have 12 to 14 dealers across the country," Narayan said.

Volvo expects the luxury car market to grow very strongly and there will be significantly more customers in India opting for luxury cars in the price range of Rs. 20-25 lakh. The segment sold 8000 units last year and a growth of 25-30 percent this year is expected with annual sales reaching up to 10,000 units this year.
