Volkswagen Promises Beetle in India Next Year

Volkswagen India has officially confirmed that they shall definitely be launching their world famous car, Beetle, in India in 2009. “Beetle will come here. After strengthening our dealership network, it will come next year,” confirmed VW India President and Managing Director, Joerg Mueller.

VW plans to strengthen its brand image in the luxury car segment as it prepares to launch in India. Beetle is currently manufactured in Mexico and shall come to India as a completely built unit. This means that car shall attract heavy import duty levied on CBU which will make it pricier.

It also plans to capture larger Indian market and thus plans to introduce its small car model, Volkswagen Up! and Polo, also in India next year. VW is currently setting up its manufacturing plant in Chakan near Pune. It plans to invest 530 million Euros for setting up the complete facility in India. Polo shall roll out from its Chakan plant once the plant is completely set up. The new plant shall also rolls out group company model, Skoda Fabia, neat year.

VW group is also planning to strengthen its dealership networks and will have 15 dealers by the year end. India may also witness its new SUV Touareg in the country early nest year.
