Volkswagen Beetle Riding a Success Ride in India
India may be the largest small car market but premium segment cars have also seen a boost in sales in past few months. Volkswagen launched its premium super luxury car model VW Beetle last year in India. VW has already received 300 bookings for the model so far and the car has a waiting period of at least two to three months.
Volkswagen Beetle was launched as part of a brand building exercise and the company has positioned the model as a lifestyle car. Volkswagen is not aiming Beetle to be mass-selling model but the current sales figures are definitely a pleasant surprise for the company. “We think there is no competition for Beetle in the lifestyle segment. People readily recognise the car. Beetle will play a big role in building Volkswagen brand in India,” said Neeraj Garg, member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Car.
Volkswagen Beetle costs above Rs. 20 lakh in India and is imported as a completely built unit from its Mexico plant. The car is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine and comes with 6-speed automatic transmission. This premium luxury car features all the safety and luxury attributes like ABS, EBD, engine immobilizers, 6 CD changer, heat insulated tinted glass, 15” alloy wheels.
