Toyota USA Halts Production and Sales of 8 models
World’s largest auto manufacturer Toyota Motor Corp has recently received a great set back due to questionable systems installed in its cars. Critics around the world are now questioning Toyota’s reputation and wonder whether auto maker has compromised on its world-renowned quality and reliability to gain its number one position in the world.
In wake of current situation, Toyota has halted American sales of eight out of 16 models at all its dealerships. These models include RAV4, Corolla, Matrix, Avalon, Camry, Tundra, Sequoia and Highlander. The company has also halted production of these cars. This sales-production halt is a part of precautionary measure to prevent any faulty vehicle landing in the hands of the customer.
Toyota recalled 2.3 million units with faulty accelerator pedals that could get stuck during acceleration. The problem arose if there was no mat present or if it was too thin to limit the travel of the pedal.
Toyota’s President is quite upset of over current situation. He believes that the current situation can have long term repercussions on company’s brand image about quality and reliability that has stood test of times in past decades.
