Toyota Claims internally: Obama Administration “Not Industry Friendly”

A recent report obtained by the Detroit News reports that Toyota officials had complained in an internal presentation that “activist administration and the Congress – increasing laws and regulation” posed a challenge to Toyota. The officials complained internally that Obama administration was “not industry friendly.” This presentation was made to Yoshimi Inaba on his second day at the job when he joined Toyota's North American operations last summer.

The internal document has been spread all over Washington making it worse for the Japanese car maker. Earlier there was a report which stated that Toyota bragged about saving $100 million by limiting 2007 recall. “NHTSA’s new more aggressive management includes more attorneys at the agency, even in the leadership of rulemaking and enforcement,” says the latest document about the new government. “The new team has less understanding of engineering issues and are primarily focused on legal issues.”

Toyota has handed over 50,000 pages of internal documents to the government and more such stories are expected to surface in coming days.

  • Toyota should have came forward with a full disclosure. Instead of waiting for a huge media blitz and tons of public pressure. I never seen so many car companies having recalls all at the same time. I had no idea my car was affected until I searched on http://www.carpedalrecall.com and found I had a bad Anti Lock control unit on my 2008 Pontiac G8 , So be careful
