Tata Motors regains the position of 3rd largest passenger vehicle maker in India

The country’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors has regained the third position in the passenger car segment in the Indian market in July 2012. The company had lost the third position to Mahindra & Mahindra in the first quarter of this financial year. The company managed to register a sales growth of 50 percent in the month of July 2012 as compared to M&M’s growth figure of 27 percent.
In July 2012, Tata Motors managed to sell a total of 26,240 units of their vehicles in the Indian auto market as compared to M&M’s units in the same month. The total sales of Tata Motors in the first four months of this quarter (April to July’12) stood higher at 86,679 units as compared to M&M’s 83,515 units in the same period.
It is to be mentioned here that M&M had snatched the position of third largest passenger vehicle maker’s position from Tata Motors in the Q1 FY2012-13.
Speaking to ET, Mr. Pravin Shah, chief executive, automotive, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, "We don't chase numbers or specific number position in the market. It is clear we have been bucking the trend and growing in double digits and all our products are in demand. We rely on pull strategy rather than push strategy. Plus, there is not much distortion between our wholesale and retail sales numbers."
