Tata Motors Moves Ahead with Nano Project
Tata Motors is making a speedy journey to complete its Sanand plant for Tata Nano. Its first paint-body unit will be ready by June 2010. Durr India Pvt Ltd is working on the project on war-footing to set up its paint shop that will have a capacity of 60 cars per hour. The paint shop is one of the manufacturing units for Nano that enables to bring down the cost. It will engage robots to do the task which will be imported from Germany. The project uses Lean compact technology and will also use robots to reduce carbon-di-oxide emission up to 47 percent.
Tata Motors expects to deliver all the bookings made by December 2010. Company’s President for passenger car division confirmed that all bookings done so far will be cleared by end of next year. The first Tata Nano is expected to roll out from the mother plant by June 2010. So far nearly 15,000 units of Nano have been delivered pan India. Tata Motors still needs to make deliveries at the rate of 4000 cars per month. This is possible only when the mother plant in Sanand becomes operational in April next year.
