Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles to Go Expensive

18 February, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Tata Motors intends to hike prices of its commercial vehicles by 2 percent on account of emission norms. "New emissions norms require new technologies, therefore the prices will have to go up. Prices can go up by 1-2%," Tata Motors president (commercial vehicles) Ravi Pisharody said. Stricter Bharat IV emission norms come into force in 13 cities from April this year while rest of cities come under BS III norms, requiring companies to make changes to engine and exhaust systems.

Tata Motors had earlier slashed production of its commercial vehicles by 5-10 percent owing to the key auto component shortage. According to Pisharody, there is no shortage from any specific supplier but the industry has been facing shortfall since past 1-2 months for several key components like trucks/bus radial tyres.
