Suzuki Motorcycle India Plans to Enter Popular Bike Segment

15 September, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Suzuki Motorcycle India is planning to churn volumes from the Indian automobile market. It is planning to enter the entry-level bike segment for growth. India’s entry level bike segment includes 75cc - 125cc bikes and is currently ruled by Hero Honda that holds 80 percent market share. Bike market in India accounts for 58 motorcycles sold annually and is growing at a growth rate of 14 percent.

Suzuki currently sells Zeus and Heat 125cc bikes and Access 125 cc gearless scooter in India. It now plans to launch at least two new products every year. It also plans to invest additional Rs. 150 crores in India towards its expansion plans. This does not mean that there will be no activity in the super bike segment. It still plans to launch Gixxer or Suzuki GSX-R 1000cc bike next year.

Suzuki has its plant in Gurgaon spread in 37 acres with a production capacity of 1.75 lakh units annually. This capacity can be scaled up to 2.5 lakh units at the end of this financial year.
