SUV Land Rover Freelander in India on September 22

22 September, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Tata Motors is ready to launch its luxury SUV Land Rover Freelander in India on September 22. Freelander 2 will be the cheapest product from the JLR product portfolio of Tata Motors. What sets Freelander apart from its competitors is its unique monocoque frame like a hatchback or a sedan.

Freelander is a compact premium SUV from JLR stable largely sold in European markets like the UK, France, Spain, Italy and also in China. It is also present in East Europe like Ukraine. In India, the car will be sold as a completely built unit that will attract 100% import duty. In the UK, Freelander is sold around Rs. 17.5 lakh. Actual price details of the new model coming to India are not available so far but hence we can expect it to be priced around Rs. 35 lakh and above.

Tata Motors already sells three Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3. Discovery 3 is currently the cheapest model in India sold at Rs. 60 lakh while Ranger Rover models are sold at around Rs. 80 lakh.
