Reva to Step Up Its Expansion Plans
By 2012, India's only electric car maker Reva plans to sell 30,000 units annually. It is already a recognized player and marks its presence in at least 24 countries. It recently unveiled its latest models Reva NXG and NXR at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2009. The company aims to enter new markets and intends to sell its models in total 50 countries around the globe. Reva is setting up its new manufacturing unit in Bangalore by mid-2010. Its current production unit has a capacity of manufacturing only 6000 units annually. It has already invested Rs 30 crores for the first phase of its plant and will invest as per the step-by-step development of the new plant.
After the new facility, Reva will have the largest production of electric cars in the world. "It's the first attempt at mass production of a green car,”said Chetan Maini, the man behind Reva Electric Car Co.
Reva has also signed up with Northern Light Energy and Banon in the US that will manufacture its brand of cars for the American markets. In India, General Motors has signed MoU with Reva to use its technology for manufacturing electric model of Chevrolet Spark.
