Reva’s Expansion Plans for Overseas Market

22 December, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

India’s first electric auto maker Reva is planning to expand into overseas markets like Australia, US and the Europe. It is looking for partners to manufacture electric cars using its technology. "We are looking for partners in 4-5-countries to set up manufacturing facilities and especially in the US, Australia and Europe. We are in talks with some companies, but nothing has been finalised so far," said Chetan Maini, Reva Electric Car Company's Deputy Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.

Reva is already in the process of setting up its second plant in Bangalore that will have a manufacturing capacity of 30,000 units. Initially, the company intends to invest Rs. 30 crore and further investments would follow once the plant becomes operational.

Reva is planning to introduce two new models next year. NXR model will be a family car model that will be introduced next year while the NXG or the Next Generation Car will roll out in 2011. “We have not decided on phasing out or continuing the existing Reva model. We will take a decision at the right time," added Maini. Both the models will be available in the overseas markets as well.
