Renault to Bring Electric Car Twizy to India

16 February, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Renault had first unveiled its new electric vehicle concept Twizy at Frankfurt Auto Show 2009. Later it showcased the model at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 and it was admired by the on-lookers. “Potentially a sensible electric car for India, where many people commute on mopeds,” said Hormazd Sorabjee, Editor, Autocar India. The model has been developed as an innovative product to address the needs to city commuting which is also environmentally friendly.

Renault intends to launch this zero-emission vehicle to expand its market share in India. The company is currently looking for partner to develop it for the Indian market. Twizy is well suited for urban use with a seating capacity for two people who can sit one behind another. It is 90.5 inches long and 44.5 inches wide. Renault claims that Twizy will be able to accelerate at the same rate as a 125 cc bike with a turning radius of a scooter. It is powered by a 20bhp electric motor that develops 7.14kgm of max torque and can attain a top speed of 75kph. Renault has planned for its EVs include bringing the Twizy to India in 2011.
