Renault Sandero Not For Indian Market For Now

11 February, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Renault has announced that it will be building its own brand in India and will introduce five new cars in next two years. Renault Fluence and Renault Koleos will be manufactured locally at its Chennai plant and the company will import three other models as completely built unit. However, though earlier expected the company currently does not have any plans to bring its 5-door hatchback model Renault Sandero to the Indian market.

Renault had earlier planned to jointly produce the car in association with Mahindra and Mahindra at its Nashik facility where it is already manufacturing its entry level sedan Mahindra Renault Logan.

However as per the recent statement from Renault Vice-President (Corporate Affairs and Communications) Ashish Sinharoy, “We did a detailed study on Sandero and based on the feedback it is next to impossible to launch in India. People were not happy with the design of the aforesaid car so we decided to put curtains on it.”

On the other hand, Renault has decided to review its joint venture with M&M and will be making significant changes in its corporate structure to achieve a positive resolution for both the companies.
