Renault-Nissan Inaugurate its New Plant In Chennai

French automaker Renault and Japan car company Nissan have a global business alliance, which exists in India also. Renault Nissan alliance inaugurated its new plant in Chennai that will be capable of producing four lakh units by 2015. Both the companies will make investments to the tune of Rs. 45,000 cr in next five years. They have already invested Rs. 2,900 crores in the plant which has an initial manufacturing capacity of 200,000 units. This can be further scaled up to 400,000 units in coming years. "The all-new plant in Chennai is an intangible symbol of out growth strategy in India. The plant will play a very important role in our global alliance," Renault-Nissan alliance chief Carlos Ghosn said.

This plant will be one of the four major manufacturing hubs for the company. It has already started trial production of Nissan’s small car model Micra that goes on sale in India this July. He stated that this plant is “a milestone for the alliance.”

Ghosn also cleared that it will not severe its ties with M&M and its entry level sedan model Logan will continue to ply on Indian roads.
