French auto maker Renault is looking for a local partner amongst Indian companies to produce and sell electric vehicles in the Indian market. India currently has Reva as its major electric vehicle manufacturer which has already signed MoU with General Motors to produce electric Chevrolet Spark.
Renault has been talking to several other companies that produce electric vehicle but intends to enter the EV market only after receiving due support from the government to make EVs feasible in the Indian market.
Renault already has alliance with Nissan in India and will start selling its sedan model Fluence next year in India. Renault is also planning to launch Koleos and Nissan Micra with its joint venture partners. In the global market, it has an impressive EV portfolio that includes Twizy two-seater concept car, Kangoo goods mover for urban traffic and Zoe which is its mid-sized sedan. Renault exited its Indian joint venture with Mahindra last month owing to growing differences and poor response to its entry level sedan Logan in the Indian market.
