Renault Displays Twizy ZE Concept at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit unveiled the zero-emission electric car - Twizy ZE concept, at the inauguration ceremony of the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The car has been designed by French auto maker Renault. The two-seater Twizy is one of four electric cars that Renault unveiled in September 2009, and is being displayed outside Europe for the first time. The concept model is currently on display at the auto show which will also display more “green cars” over the course of the expo.
Renault also confirmed that it will launch two more models in India which will be rolled out from its Chennai manufacturing facility. "We will be launching our luxury car 'Fluence' and our crossover 'Koleos' in the second half of 2011. Both cars will come in petrol and diesel versions," said Renault India Country GM and MD Marc Nassif during the Delhi Auto Expo. In the next two years, Renault will bring its complete range of cars to India, suitable for Indian customers. This will include a small to luxury car range. "Our plan involves introduction of several new cars within 18-24 months and the full range within 48 months time. These cars will be produced in Chennai.

My Electric car crib My concern is about the hype that the elctric car is environment friendly. In my viewpoint this is misrepresentation. On the other hand i presume that it is equal or more un environmental than a car using fossil fuel !!!! When you look only at the pollution coming out of the electric car ..yes there is hardly anything visible (in terms of pollution). About 95% of the power produced is from coal, Oil and Gas..the remaining 5% is from hydro and Nuclear....and a minuscule amount from renewable energy. http://www.marinebuzz.com/marinebuzzuploads/SpecialEditionIndoUSnucleardealToBeorNot_B71B/india_energy_source_1.jpg So the power that comes to our house has already polluted the environment from power plants, though the power plant may be located away from the city we live in. You will find thermal power plants in the city itself...like N.Delhi...polluting the city 24X7. Now in a power plant the thermal energy from burning coal, oil or gas is converted to steam power to run a turbine which is then converted to electrical power using a generator... We loose energy when we convert from one type to another...so in the above case we have lost quite a bit of energy in the conversions. This power generated needs to be transported for many kilometres through the grid..we again loose power due to transmission losses. Power theft is another issue we are not talking about. Once the power reaches our home we need to convert this electrical energy into chemical energy (batteries) that is stored in the car and then reconverted to run the car. There is a substantial loss of energy in this conversion. The efficiency of the battery goes down in 3-4 years and needs to be replaced. The requirement for changing batteries is a huge cost which the electric car companies downplay. Lead acid batteries are very very un-environment friendly...in fact it poisons the environment. So at a local level you are not polluting the environment...but at a global level electric cars are a catastrophe.
