Porsche, the German auto maker, has released the first look of the compact crossover SUV based on the Audi Q5, whose deliveries are lined up in the mid of the calendar 2013. The major revelation made by the firm is the name of the mini SUV - ‘Macan’, earlier known as Cajun. The SUV’s name, Macan, is an Indonesian name for Tiger, symbolizing attractive and dashing looks with power pact performance drives.
Mr. Bernhard Maier, Sales Chief, Porsche SE, said while commenting on naming the mini SUV, "The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations." He further remarked that the compact SUV is a “genuine Porsche” that uniquely combines the feel of a sports car with the ride of an SUV.
The production of the Porsche Macan will be streamlined at the company’s manufacturing plant located at Leipzig in Germany. A huge investment of 500 million Euros will be incurred for the plant’s expansion purpose in order to accommodate body assembly line and paint workshop creating ample employment opportunities and will be the costliest expansion project undertaken by the company in its long years of experience.
The compact SUV, Macan is set to be the company’s fifth model lined after mid-size crossover SUV - Cayenne, two door sports coupe - 911, four door coupe – Panamera and Boxster, its mid-engined roadster.
