Porsche Electric Car

22 September, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

One of the most talked about electric cars at the Frankfurt Auto show is the Porsche electric car definitely got more attention than the others. The car is still 5 years away from a commercial launch and hitting the roads in full force.

According to Porsche new President and CEO, Michael Macht, the company is seriously contemplating its options of bringing electric powered sports car. He stated that the current technology is not capable of meeting strict Porsche’s requirement but its engineers are working round the clock to meet the demands.

“An electric sports car would therefore only make sense for Porsche if it offers performance and a cruising range similar to that of current sports cars in the market,” he said. “We are therefore taking the first step in this direction with a full hybrid – in the Cayenne, the Panamera and maybe in the not too distant future also in a racing car or a production 911. Why not?”

Porsche launched new Panamera which is its fourth model line and it is its first 4-door sports car. It hits the US market in mid-October 2009. Macht was hopeful that one day Porsche will have an electric sports car in its lineup.
