Porsche at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2009

16 September, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Porsche marks its strong presence at the Frankfurt Motor Show with its high performance models like 911 Sports Classic. The new 911 Turbo is faster, lighter and more powerful than ever. The new RS has a 3.8-liter flat-six that pumps out 450hp. There is also an optional lithium-ion battery that saves 22 pounds.

“The heart of the new, uncompromising GT3 RS is the power unit. Like the engine featured in the 911 GT3, the naturally-aspirated RS power unit now displaces 3.8 liters and delivers even more power, while revving up even faster to its 8500 rpm redline. It now delivers 450 horsepower, 15 more horsepower than its 911 GT3 counterpart. Even with a specific output of more than 118 hp per liter from the six-cylinder boxer engine, the power unit in the new GT3 RS remains fully suitable for everyday use,” said the official statement from Porsche.

Porsche brings not only the most fuel efficient but also the most dynamic high-performance sports car in its class which is the next generation 911 Turbo. There will be only 250 units of 911 classic will have fixed rear spoiler in the form of the famous ‘ducktail’ from the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 as well as the distinctive double-dome roof.

Manager of High Performance Cars for Porsche, Andreas Preuninger, demonstrated the car as he took the 2010 Porsche GT3 RS out for a ride on the Autobahn yesterday evening. Due to traffic, he was only able to get the car up to 292kph on the unrestricted A5 Autobahn.
