Obama Endorses Chevrolet Cruze as “The Car of Future”

23 February, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

The US President Barack Obama signed the hood of prototype Chevrolet Cruze 2011 model as the car sales crossed the 100,000 milestone. The car has been introduced in more than 60 countries so far. “Cruze is already a hit across Europe and Asia and now, it’s coming to America to challenge the status quo,” said Jim Campbell, general manager, Chevrolet. “It’s the latest tangible example of how Chevrolet is working to bring new products to market that range from gas-friendly to gas-free.”

The model was introduced at the North American International Auto Show 2009. The Chevrolet Cruze 2011 will be available in its home country from third quarter of 2010. New Chevrolet Cruze has been designed for capturing larger market share all over the globe. General Motors intends to sell over a million Chevrolet units in Europe by 2015. It also affirms General Motors’ commitments to introduce more fuel efficient cars using new, small-displacement four-cylinder engines.

The car will be assembled this summer at GM’s Lordstown plant in Ohio. The workers hope that this model will keep the assembly line running and their jobs intact. General Motors has invested $350 million in engineering, retooling and investments at the auto assembly plant and metal stamping center 75 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
