Nissan Steps Up its India Operations
Indian arm of Nissan Motors has kept its plans unchanged for India as it foresees great market potential in coming months in the country. Nissan is setting up its manufacturing plant near Chennai in association with French car maker Renault. It will begin production of its first small car in India next year. It also intends to make India as its manufacturing and export hub for its small cars. It intends to export its cars from India to nearly 100 countries. It will have full production capacity of manufacturing 1,10,000 cars annually by 2011. Later, it will increase the capacity to 1,80,000 cars. The production will be mainly for the European market including the UK.
Nissan Micra/March is also slated for a launch in India next year. Initially the company will roll out the hatchback model and later its sedan model will also be launched by the year 2011. Nissan Micra will be developed in India on its newly developed global V-platform. The new platform has been especially developed to produce cars for the developing markets. The models will be fine-tuned for the developed markets once the model goes into production.
Nissan will also export its model Pixo from Mundra Port in Gujarat in India. It is basically the A-star model from Suzuki that will be sold as Suzuki Splash and Nissan Pixo in the overseas market.
