Renault-Nissan alliance is ready to launch their new small car Nissan Micra in the Indian market. The car will be launched sometime after May 2010 and will be at the dealerships ready for sale by July 2010. Renault- Nissan intend to sell at least 80,000 units of Micra in the FY 2011. "Exports, which will be a major portion of sales, will start in the second half of 2010," Akira Sakurai, chief operating officer of Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd. said. Nissan introduced Micra this year at the Geneva Auto show. The car will be manufactured in Thailand, India, Brazil and probably Mexico. It will be the global hatchback model for the company which has been especially developed for the emerging markets.

Meanwhile, Renault-Nissan is in talks with Ashok Leyland in India to manufacture yet another small car model that will be placed between ultra cheap car and Micra model. According to Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan Chiarman, their company is in talks with Ashok Leyland to explore all possibilities. He ruled out any possibilities of such a project with Bajaj Auto as the latter had its “hands-full” on the ULC project.
