Mahindra and Mahindra intends to enter the motorcycle segment in India from 2010. "The company is working on motorcycle models and the first model will be launched in 2010," said company vice-president of sales and customer care Sanjay Mittal. M&M have already launched its gearless scooters in India and have made a successful entry in the two-wheeler market. Last month M&M sold 7000 units of these scooters of which 5600 were of Duro and Rodeo and rest of Flyte.

Mahindra will be using its manufacturing unit in Madhya Pradesh to meet the requirements with a little addition of some machines. The facility will be capable of producing 400,000 units thereafter. M&M is also looking at expanding its dealer base in India. It currently has 325 dealers which will be expanded to 375 dealers by the end of this fiscal year. Apart from increasing its dealership networks, it is also seeking help of cooperative banks and ‘grameen banks’ to make easy loan facilities available in tier-II and tier-III cities as well as in rural areas. It also intends to use its commercial vehicle showrooms in rural and semi-rural areas to showcase its gearless scooters which will help in better market penetration.
