New Mitsubishi Models

29 October, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Mitsubishi revealed the latest plug-in hybrid Concept PX-MiEV crossover concept at the recent Tokyo Auto show last week. The new concept model echoed Mitsubishi’s "environmental and on-road performance" sentiments but the model is basically a soft-roader. The exteriors are quite to-the-point and carry rugged features of an SUV. The vehicle has a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that is powered by two electric motors and a 1.6L MIVEC internal combustion engine. The engine is controlled by the MiEV Operating System that keeps on selecting the optimum drive mode whenever the vehicle is on drive.

The new PX-MiEV crossover model runs on three modes – the All Electric Mode, Series Hybrid Mode that operates on IC engine to charge the onboard batteries and a Parallel Hybrid Mode that makes use of electric as well as internal combustion engine.

Latest spy shots also reveal the upcoming Mitsubishi Outlander Sports crossover model which is based on the Cx concept. Mitsubishi had revealed its concept model two years back at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The company had stated then that the car will undergo production in 2009 and will be christened as Mitsubishi Outlander Sports. The car will go into production next year and will hit the US market by end of 2010.
