New Electric Car from Fiat –Chrysler

14 October, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Fiat and Chrysler are working on building an electric car that is expected to be based on Fiat Micro Vett concept. Fiat had showcased an electric concept car at the British Motor Show last year which was based on Fiat 500. According to senior executive Altavilla from Chrysler – which comes as a first open recognition of the project - Fiat-Chrysler alliance will make use of Chrysler’s know-how in electric engine technology to develop an all-electric car. Altavilla also confirmed that R&D on the car was “going on well” and the car will hit the roads sometime after 2010.

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has announced his new five year business plans for the firms and it includes at least one all-electric car. The Micro-Vett concept uses a 22kwh lithium-ion battery pack, giving a range of up to 75 miles and a top speed of 60mph.

On November 04, 2009, Fiat will officially present its plans about the partnership with Chrysler. It will also reveal full details about the partnership.
