New BMW 5-Series Revealed

24 November, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

The new sixth generation BMW 5-series model has been launched in Munich. This five door saloon is the second biggest seller for BMW and this new model goes on sale in March next year after the Geneva Motor Show 2010. BMW has noticed the success of the new Mercedes E-class launched last month. BMW 5 Series offers customers the perfect amalgamation of class-leading power plants, unrivalled driving dynamics and a sporting yet elegant design to set a new benchmark in the executive class.

It has the longest wheelbase in its class offering better interior space spelling to more leg room for rear passengers and a larger roof panel. This means customers can now also opt for a sunroof panel for their models. The BMW 5 Series Saloon is as practical as it is elegant and has a 520-litre boot with the option to specify 40:20:40 split folding rear seats. There is a long list of features included in the new model like Start-Stop technology, an eight-speed automatic transmission and a double-wishbone front suspension setup.

European models will feature at least 7 engine options ranging from four-cylinder diesel to the range-topping twin-turbocharged V8. Fuel consumption is down from 6.6 to 5.2 litres/100km while emissions drop by 10 to 166g/km.
