McLaren MP4-12C – a new supercar coming up!

10 September, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

Ron Dennis left F1 to develop his automotive business which is now known as McLaren Automotive. And now, McLaren’s new supercar will be known as MP4-12C. It was codenamed P11 and its actual name was revealed by Ron Dennis in an interview with British Newspaper Sunday Times. He also revealed his plans for next six years and new models joining the McLaren stable in next few years. “We’re building more than one car; we’re building a brand,” he said. He intends to have eventually “five to 10 models and variants” to offer to his buyers by the time its complete model line-up is revealed.

The first of the development cars is believed to be an open version of the 12C, due a year after the fixed-roof model’s launch in 2011. The McLaren MP4-12C will cost £150,000 (Rs. 1.20 crores) and McLaren hopes to sell 1000 in the first year. The mooted on-sale date is currently at some point in 2011. MD Antony Sheriff said the company has “a complete plan to produce multiple models” and is planning eventually to build around 4000 units a year. By 2015, there will be two more sports cars bearing the McLaren badge.
