Maruti Suzuki is planning a massive expansion in India starting from revamping its Manersar plant. It intends to ramp up its manufacturing capacity at its Manesar plant to 1.3 million units in next two years. The company has already received an approval from its Board to expand its capacity. Presently, Maruti has a capacity of manufacturing a million units at its plant.

Maruti will be investing $215 million to ramp up its Manesar unit and will also shift some of its manufacturing capacity from its Gurgaon unit. The new additional capacity will commence production from 2012, said official release from the company.

Maruti currently hold more than 50 percent market share but now faces fierce competition from other auto brands who are set to break up the market with new entrants like Toyota Etios, Chevrolet Beat, Honda Small Car, Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo, etc.
