Maruti’s First Made In India Car in 2012

February 05, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Maruti Suzuki has been a leader in the Indian auto market since quite a few decades. The new plans from the company reveal that it definitely intends to hold its position for next few decades as well. The company has currently outgrown its parent company Suzuki Motor Corp. in sales figures.

So far all Maruti models have been brain child of Suzuki’s R&D facility in Japan and India. Now, MSIL intends to do better than that and will have its own research facility near Rohtak. The company has been on talent hunt globally and has recruited nearly 1000 engineers for its new R&D facility. Maruti will launch its completely Made In India car by 2012 - a car that has been conceived, designed, developed and produced exclusively in India. The R&D facility at Rohtak will be completely taken over by Maruti as a self-reliant set up.

Maruti’s current most successful models like A-Star and Eeco have already established company’s strength and expertise in developing cars exclusively as per customer choice. “The idea is that the development of small new cars particularly for India should be done more and more in India,” said Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava.

  • It will be more meaningfull if they hire Indian engineers for R&D,Indian autocomponent manufacturers for spares, and Indian made Machinary for manufacturing then it can be truly called Made in India car.Global engineers, global parts supplyers and global workers can not be made in India. It can better be taged as outsourced to India.
