Maruti has recently upgraded its popular models with new K-series engine and will be revamping its entire product portfolio to meet the new emission norms. It has now launched the upgraded models of its small car Maruti Swift and sedan model Swift Dzire in India. Both the models now have the new K-series engines that are Bharat Stage IV compliant.
Maruti’s new models are now more eco-friendly as the diesel variants of both models are also fitted with new K-series engine. the old 1.3L G-series engine is now gone. The K-series engine is tuned up and it produces 84bhp of max power and 113Nm of max torque. The model already powers other Maruti models like Zen Estilo, SX4, A-star and Ritz. The new K12 petrol engine delivers a fuel efficiency of 17.9 kilometer per liter, as against 15.9 kilometer per liter in the old engines.
The upgraded models are now costlier as the price of Swift Dzire goes up by nearly Rs. 10,000. However, price of Maruti Swift petrol remains the same. Swift qualifies for the small car excise norms as it comes fitted with 1.2L engine.

Good analysis, however I was of the opinion the Swift was already a small car. Are you sure about the exise duty benefit, if so this is clear cut malpractice on behalf of Maruti where they have such good reputation, marketshare and hold in the Indian Market. Maruti should wisely think about how they move now especially with the likes of GM, VW groups coming in with very competively priced models.

Hi I have visited a couple of dealers in bangalore for purchasing Swift VXI. They have told me about the Kseries engine upgrade and delivery being done in the month of march if i book now. However they have suggested a price increase of about 15k across the board. your article points out that the petrol version will cost the same and will be qualified as small car due to the 1.2 litre engine. Do you think then that the petrol models might go down in price due to less BHP as well as the older version ran at 88 BHP.

Maruti has played very smart by not changing the prices of SWIFT. Actually, as per your article the swift now qualifies for the small car excise norm which means the duty is now reduced by 12%. Maruti has hiked the prices of Dzire only by 2% and they have not touched the prices of swift. This means that they were actually supposed to increase the prices only by a similar margin i.e. 2-3% but they have kept the entire benefit of excise duty reduction in their pocket which means a benefit of 9-10%.
Only Maruti can afford to do this in India but i must say that they are just taking advantage of their market position. AnMo (January 18, 2010)

Now a days INDIAN automobiles market is good, now commen people are interested to buy four weeler for their comforts, they could keep that car for till their last brith or for fifteen years,if the company will change the model and engine within a year they are unable to handle those vehicle, they will face loss and decrease their interest about that particular car.so automobiles company shoud not change model immediatly.
