Maruti Exploring New Overseas Markets

15 January, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Maruti Suzuki India Limited currently exports its models to European countries where its models are sold under Suzuki brand names. Now the company intends to explore other markets like Middle East, Australia, South America and even the United States.

Its model Suzuki A-Star, also sold as Suzuki Splash, is extremely successful in European nations. It also got added leverage during the recession when various European governments had launched scrappage scheme to boost sales of small cars. Now MSIL is exploring new avenues to keep up its strong export figures. Maruti has posted a robust 135 per cent growth in exports during April and December 2009 by shipping 1.05 lakh cars against 45,000 cars exported in the corresponding period last fiscal. It intends to export 1.30 lakh cars by the end of current financial year against last year’s sales of 78,000 units.

"We are on an average selling 8,000 new cars per month in these markets, which have grown by 30 per cent in April till December 2009,” said Company's deputy general manager HS Brar. He also indicated that the prices of the models may go up owing to the rise in prices of lead, aluminum and other commodities.
