Is Someone Driving Hummer to India?
General Motors has already announced that its brand Hummer is on sale. It plans to sell its entire Hummer division to the contending bidders interested in acquisition. Sales of Hummer had been down by 36 percent from 2007. Moreover, it has become difficult for car makers to meet the CAFÉ standards in 2012, Japanese and American companies have lesser interests in the same.

Rumours have been doing their rounds since a long time and now the two companies that have been narrowed down to possibly own Hummer are Tata and Mahindra & Mahindra. Tata has already started the year with the bang of Tata Nano and later added Ford and Jaguar in its product portfolio. It already has the much desired SUV under its roof, thus it makes little sense for Tata to add Hummer in its bandwagon.

On the other hand, Mahindra and Mahindra plans to sell compact SUV by 2009 and might be the more asserting bidder for the acquisition. However, representatives of both the companies are maintaining a "no comments" stand on the issue and pass on the topic as at "very embryonic stage".

General Motors either needs to re-invent its Hummer to compete in the age of fuel efficient cars or sell the same to some auto maker who can actually sell this fuel-hungry machine under its flagship.
