India Day at the Frankfurt Auto Show

India seems to be the most preferred destination for the auto makers around the world and sentiments were quite clear when IAA organized special India Day at the recent Frankfurt Auto Show 2009. The new markets for the auto manufacturers are BRIC or Brazil, Russia, India and China. India seems to be emerging as one of the most favorite ones as it is not only a market itself but also a leading haven for manufacturing cars due to its vast English speaking and skilled labour force. Yet another important reason is that India has a large cash-rich middle class that has good amount of dispensable income to spend on consumer durables.

German automakers referred to India before as “world of bullock carts” but now they are pursuing Indian markets like never before and courting Indian buyers aggressively. At the India Day at the Frankfurt Auto Show, IAA highlighted opportunities and challenges of the Indian market and the day ended with common sentiment expressing “that one simply cannot bypass the future market India," as stated by the President of the German Automobile Association, Matthias Wissmann, a minister in former Chancellor Helmut Kohl's government.
