September 18, 2009, 10:10 IST by Satish Kalepu

The new generation Sonata will be built here itself.

It is the sixth generation Sonata that features all new sheet metal, updated mechanical hardware and revised interiors. Hyundai is quite proud of its “fluidic sculpture” which took four years to design and engineer and spent around $372 million. "The Sonata will set a new standard for world-class midsize sedans with state-of-the-art technology, superior build quality and emotional design. [It] will raise Hyundai's brand values," said Hyundai’s Vice Chairman Euisun Chung in Seoul at the launch ceremony.

Hyundai promises a comprehensive technological roster, including standard stability control and hill-start assist. Other features include a three-piece panoramic sunroof and heated seats front and rear, on board telematic system. Emergency-notification and anti-theft tracking functions are free for first two years but extra costs are involved for maintenance-monitoring and -alert capabilities.
