Hyundai India mulls to bring new diesel versions from their global portfolio

Hyundai Motors, the South Korea based leading car maker, is planning to launch their entire range of diesel version of cars in the Indian market in the coming months. Following a massive hike in the prices of petrol in the country, there has been a huge shift of buyers towards the diesel run cars.

However, the company is yet to decide upon the timing of the set-up of new diesel engine manufacturing plant in the Indian market, as there is an uncertainty over the government’s decision over the proposed additional duties on the diesel run cars.

Speaking to a news daily, director (marketing and sales), Hyundai Motor India, Arvind Saxena said, “When we look at the diesel engine plant, we are looking at all kind of engines we have globally available with us.” He added, “If there is a requirement, then why not? We may have to bring in some changes to suit the fuel norms in the country, and that we can do once we will have a full-fledged diesel engine plant here.”

The company is mulling over the option of launching 1.1 diesel version of their small car Hyundai i10 in the country, to which it currently sells in the European market. The car delivers a considerably high mileage of 23km per litre.
