These models pertain to the 2011-2012 and of these, 413,418 units were sold in the US, 61,299 units in Canada along with a minor chunk exported to Israel.

The recall has been initiated to modify the engine shield beneath the car, which will enable non-trapping of any liquid substance in the engine compartment causing a fire eruption. The company has expressed its concern mentioning that due to improper engine oil changing process, the oil may dip or spill on the engine shield and may get contact with hot engine surfaces leading to an explosion of fire in the engine chamber.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had conducted a preliminary investigation in the month of April this year owing to the two engine compartment fire in the 2011 model year of Cruz cases registered and the defect was later also found on the 2012 model year.
General Motors has stated that the defective parts in the engine shield will be modified by the company free of cost at any of the dedicated Chevrolet Service Centre and the modification process will maximum consume 30 minutes of time. The company will be releasing a notice of such recall to the customers who own the Chevrolet Cruzeof the concerned model year from 11th July this year and accordingly, the customers can clock an appointment with the service centre as per their convenience.
