General Motors India announced that it has hiked prices of its 5 models by 0.5 percent to 1.5 percent with immediate effect. The company attributes the rise in price to high input costs that had been escalating since past few months. So far the auto makers have been absorbing the costs but now nearly every automaker including General Motors, Honda, Ford, etc. have hiked prices of their models in India. The new prices will be effective from January 05 2010.
"The increasing input cost is a biggest concern for us for last six months. After the commodity prices reached its bottom, all materials like steel, rubber and aluminium are rising," GM India Director (Sales), Sumit Sawhney said.
General Motors has 8 models in its Indian product portfolio - Chevrolet Spark, Aveo UVA, sedans Aveo, SUV Captiva, Optra, Cruz, Beat and Tavera. Price of Captiva, Optra and UVA remain the same but remaining 5 models have gone costlier now.
General Motors launched its new small car model Chevrolet Beat in India on Monday, January 04 2010.
