Formula One Race Fixing Scandal - Renault Admits Guilt
Renault’s F1 race fixing was revealed in 2008 itself to the Formula One’s governing body, says the father of the driver at the centre of the scandal. The latest revelation from a back-of-the-field driver has shaken the Formula One auto racing which enabled Renault’s lead driver to leap from mid-field position to a grand victory at the Singapore Grand Prix last year.
One of the Auto racing world’s worst fears seems to be coming true as the allegations are getting confirmed each day. It can lead to a scandal equivalent to the 1919 Black Sox World Series which currently tops the charts in the history of Formula One racing.
Renault declared that it will not contest the allegations by the International Automobile Federation, when Formula One’s governing body convenes a tribunal to hear the charges in Paris on Monday. The tribunal’s powers include banning Renault from the sport. “The Renault Formula One team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix,” the team said in a statement.
Flavio Briatore, a 58-year-old Italian, was the team’s managing director, and Pat Symonds, a 55-year-old Englishman, was the engineering director. Both veterans of past championships, have left the team.
