Ford to Phase Out Fusion from India

February 17, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

A new small car Ford Figo from Ford India will be available in the market from March 2010. The company intends to phase out its existing model Ford Fusion after the model is launched. "We will discontinue the Fusion and our focus in the small car segment will be exclusively on Figo in the Indian market. The Fusion was also giving us a relatively small volume and we hope to do good with the Figo," said Ford India Managing Director and President Michael Boneham.

The commercial production of Ford Figo already commenced on February 05. Ford hired nearly 700 employees to ramp up its production and expand its assembly line. The new car is now ready for sale and will be at the dealerships soon.

Ford has also expanded its dealership network in India. It opened 28 new authorized Ford dealer facilities in 24 cities of India. New facilities have opened in New Delhi, Sangrur, Haldwani, Gwalior Durgapur, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Warangal, Vellore, Salem, Vijayawada, Malappuram, Bilaspur, and Mehsana. New showrooms and workshops also are now located in Jaipur, Thane, Ahmednagar, Pune, Vapi, Ahmedabad and Cochin.
