Even though Figo is doing fairly good, the American car maker has started working on its next-generation model to remain parallel with the ultra competitive small car segment of the Indian auto industry. Codenamed B562, Ford is designing the new car from scratch at its well-equipped designing unit in Brazil. In the initial stages, Ford is looking ahead to launch the new car in Brazil and then route it at the Indian shores. In India, the car is anticipated to be manufactured at company’s Sanand facility in Gujarat by 2014.

Similar to current model, the next-generation Figo will be also offered in an option of petrol and diesel powertrains. The major highlight about the new car comes out to be Ford's much acclaimed 1 litre EcoBoost petrol unit, which may feature in the new car. Serving on the upcoming Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) EcoSport, the engine has been awarded as ‘International Engine of the Year 2012’. Considering the fact that the new motor is quite fuel efficient, new Figo is expected to set benchmarks in its segment.
Diesel model of the new-generation Figo is speculated to feature a 1.5 litre TDCI unit, which currently serves on the all-new Fiesta and will also power the yet-to-release EcoSport. Keeping in mind that the existing Figo has great handling, but requires a little boost of power and torque, the TDCI unit can offer just what the car needed. Though there is not much information available about the car, it is expected to share the existing features packed within the current model of car. Advancements like space management, comfortable interiors, brilliant drivability and an economical price tag will be the key USP of the new Ford Figo.
Besides plans to bring-in the next-generation Figo to India, the Indian division of American car maker has bigger plans for export markets as well. Presently, the company ships current version of Indian-tagged Figo to more than 50 countries worldwide. In general, future prospects of Ford India looks bright as 2014 Figo will be a good product in the company’s portfolio.
