Ford India Expanding into Semi-Urban India

18 March, 2010, 10:10 IST by Payal Pathak

Last month, Ford India opened 28 sales and service utilities in a single day in India of which 13 were in Tier III cities. This definitely speaks volumes about Ford’s plans for the Indian market. "What we have come to know is that the purchasing power in the tier III cities has increased over the years. Also, with the Figo competitively priced we plan to focus on such places for marketing in the coming year,” said Nigel Wark, Executive Director, (Marketing) Ford India.

Ford realised the market potential of urban and semi-urban Indian cities where it intends to open up new dealerships and services facilities. It has also launched its small car model Ford Figo this month which comes at an unbeatable price with attractive features. Currently, 20 percent of the sales volumes for Ford India are being generated by Tier III cities like Rajkot and Varanasi. Ford anticipates that this volume could go up to 30 percent this year. In order to cater to the rising demand and offer good value service, Ford is seriously expanding into these cities to offer better sales and services to its customers in India. It currently has 167 outlets in the country in 97 cities of India which will be increased to 200 outlets by the end of this year.
