Fiat Cars to Get Expensive from January 2010

Fiat India has announced that it will hike prices of its models Linea and Grand Punto by 2-2.5 percent from January 2010. The company attributes the price hike to the rising input costs. Average price hike of the cars will be Rs. 15,000 but it may go up to Rs. 25,000 in some variants. However, prices of Fiat Palio will remain unchanged.

"Input material costs have gone up substantially and without wanting to burden our consumers too much, the cars will now be available with a price increase of 2-2.5 per cent. The Linea and Grande Punto continue to be two of the most attractive propositions in their respective segments," Fiat India, CEO and President, Rajeev Kapoor, said.

Fiat Linea has been one of the most successful models in Fiat’s product portfolio. It has sold nearly 12,000 units so far since it was launched earlier this year in January. Grand Punto was launched in June this year and Fiat has sold 9000 units of the model so far. Fiat expects to do good business by the end of current fiscal year with both the models.
