Mahindra has announced to launch its own 4-seater electric car in India by 2010. It first plans to launch the vehicle in India and then cater to the overseas market demands. "We plan to launch the product in the country first and mature in the segment before venturing into foreign markets. We want to be prepared for the market and don’t want to be caught unawares,” said M&M official.

In the world of rising fuel prices, there has been a considerable rise in the demand for fuel efficient vehicles or vehicles with alternative resources. This has made auto makers take notice of the new emerging market in the country. Tata Motors has also announced to launch its own electric vehicle along with car that runs on compressed air. Contrary to M&M plans, it first plans to launch the car in Norway and then bring it subsequently to the Indian market.
Currently, Reva is the only electric vehicle in India but it is a 2-seater car. Mahindra is aiming to develop a 4-seater car based on electricity as its fuel resource. REcan currently sells at Rs. 3.5 lakh in Bangalore and Rs. 2.9 lakh onwards in New Delhi.

Mahindra is one India's most largest automakers that has plans in place for zero-emission vehicles of their own. It is the first companies to introduce electric vehicles worldwide. They are involved in designing and manufacturing of compact electric vehicles.
Today's auto market already has plenty of discount auto parts so no worry if you are planning to convert your cars into EV. Chadwick Scott (May 31, 2011)

I bought a Mahindra electric bike in August 2009. Recently, a few problems arose in the bike:
1. The right hand sid front light for signal (right blinker) broke 2. The hook for hanging and anchoring carry bags in the leg space of the bike came off. I promptly took the bike to your workshop at: Plot No. A-104/105, Road No. 18, Wagle Estate Thane (W) - 400 604, Maharashtra, INDIA Phone:022 2582 3529 There I met a person called Sagar. He said that they do not have the spare parts to fix the bike. I have been following up since the last 20 days with him, and everytime he says there are no spares to fix my bike. This is a serious problem. How do these guys sell the bike and even have a workshop for it, but no spares to fix the bike? I sent 3 emails to their customer services CUSTOMERCARE@mahindra.com. Mr. Sultana Shaikh replied to only 1 of my emails, assuring some resolution, but till date neither has my bike been fixed, nor has there been any follow up from Mahindra. I would strongly advise everyone to keep away from Mahindra. Their workshop and after sales customer services sucks big time. Dev My details are as under: Dev Nisar Bunglow 19, Soham Gardens Manpada Junction, Behind Bikaner Sweets Thane (W) 400 607, Maharashtra, INDIA Phone: 9819137361 (call after 3pm or send SMS any time and I will call back) Thanks, Dev Dev (October 29, 2009)

With the world going "green" I was interested in Mahindra and Tata introducing alternative vehicles to use. I am hoping to hear and see the stratgey of a leader of these markets want and need this type of vehicle expand to the United States. I see several other US companies along with Asin companies proceed, but with the market so new, why not India.
