With this iteration of the range, the bar for sports sedans will just get higher, as it will exhibit the new interpretation of the traditional BMW designing language and styling. The upgraded avatar of the 3 Series that will be launched by the company on 19th July 2012 will also set new standards for handling, performance, luxury and technology in the auto industry. The range was earlier launched in three trims and equipment variants, namely Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line, in the US market.
The front fascia of the new 3 Series sports sedan will boast of extended headlamps which will extend to its kidney grille. The size of new entrant is higher than that of its predecessor, with a wide track of +37 mm (1.46 inch) in the front and +47 mm (1.85 inch) at the rear. Length of new edition is extended by +93 mm (3.66 inch) and its wheelbase is increased by +50 mm (1.96 inch), which together make the car more noticeable as a sports sedan. As far as the interiors of new generation 3 Series are concerned, the passengers seated in the rear row will acknowledge the increased space in the cabin because of larger dimensions.
While developing the newest edition of the car, BMW concentrated on the drive and chassis technology incorporated in it, which also stands as an expertise area for the company. With the new model, the company has offered a decent option of two robust and efficient engines which are incorporated with advanced BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. Both of these engines will be available in the models that are slated to be sold in the US. Besides 6-cylinder N55 engine that powers the 335i, which has already received favourable response in the market, the buyers can also look forward to the new turbocharged 4-cylinder (N20) powertrain in the 328i. The new motor was first incorporated in Z4 sDrive28i 2012, which provided an unmatched driving experience to the drivers while delivering decent fuel economy.
In order to assist the performance of this engine, BMW has mated it to an 8 speed automatic transmission system, which has made its debut in this segment. Along with decent output, the company has also paid attention towards keeping the emissions of the new entrant quite low. Advancements like BMW EfficientDynamics technology, auto start-stop function and brake energy regeneration play a crucial role in reducing the fuel consumption of the car.
Apart from brilliant output and low emissions, BMW has also worked on the safety features of its new 3 Series. In order to assure complete safety of its passengers, the car is incorporated with advancements like parking assistant system which assists the driver to park his/her car safely. Besides, technologies like active blind spot detection system, lane departure warning system and camera-based collision warning system are also included in the safety package of the car. All these advancements and technologies are witnessed for the first time in any of the BMW 3 Series models.
Enhancing the efficiency of car, features like navigation system with Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) and advanced comfort function, which automatically opens the trunk lid, are also included in the advancements list. Owing to the dynamic features incorporated within sixth generation of BMW 3 Series, the car will showcase sporty character of BMW's mid-size sedans in the market.

I don't understand, why BMW took so long to introduce the 6th generation 3 series in Indian market. Now unless they keep the prices similar to the current generation model, its gonna be an uphill task to compete with a very competent C class and refreshed A4.
