BMW 5 Series Made in India
German automaker BMW rolled out its brand new 5-series model out of its Chennai plant to cater to the rising luxury car demand in India. The new 5-series models is priced between Rs. 38.9 lakh to Rs. 58 lakh. It had earlier introduced the petrol and diesel variants in April earlier this year and now it has started its commercial production.
"The BMW 5 Series is the core product in our model range and has significantly contributed to the image and success of BMW in India. We are confident that the new BMW 5 Series produced in Chennai will further increase our momentum in the Indian luxury car segment," BMW Plant Managing Director Juergen Eder said in a statement.
BMW will import 523i, 530d and 525d as completely knocked down units and assemble the same at its Chennai plant but will import 535i as a completely built unit only. Over 3,700 5 Series models have been sold in India since BMW opened shop in India, accounting to over 50% of the German marque’s sales in India.
